Synamedia gains certification from ChinaDRM Lab for DRM and Watermarking solutions

LONDON and BEIJING, 28 February 2019 – Synamedia, the largest independent video software provider, today announced that its Rapid Watermark solution and VideoGuard DRM offering have been certified by the ChinaDRM Lab.

China’s service providers can now join leading counterparts across the globe in protecting their premium video revenue streams – including those in UHD and 4K – from threats by offering sophisticated security solutions to protect and disrupt linear and streamed content.

The certification comes at a time of booming demand for premium OTT content from Chinese consumers and intense competition for eyeballs. As a result, China’s service providers are looking to accelerate their investment in premium offerings such as UHD, 4K, live sports and early release content to keep customers loyal and remain competitive.

Synamedia’s Watermark solution gives service providers the real-time data and insight to act swiftly to disrupt the redistribution of premium content without impacting the viewing experience. By providing a robust response to advanced collusion attacks with real-time control from the headend, it is a highly effective anti-piracy solution.

In parallel, VideoGuard DRM gives OTT providers the ability to combat piracy and securely deliver premium live and VOD content to multiple screens.

According to Digital TV Research, China will have 235 million SVOD subs by 2023 in its 2018 Asia Pacific OTT TV & Video Forecasts report. Asia Pacific SVOD revenues are expected to triple from just under $5 billion in 2017 to $15 billion in 2023, with China’s share accounting for about half of the total.

Sue Couto, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific, Synamedia, said, “Rampant piracy of both VOD and live content streams is the scourge of our times. The certification of our Rapid Watermark and DRM solutions by the ChinaDRM Lab comes at a great time for China’s service providers, who can now turn to us as the global leader in video security solutions to combat these ever-changing threats. Faced with the need to continually accelerate their investment in premium content to attract and retain subscribers in a fiercely competitive market, the need to safeguard revenues has never been more important.”

Synamedia is the market leader in Conditional Access content security in China and globally; it has been safeguarding pay-TV operators’ revenues against piracy in China for over 20 years. The firm is ramping up its R&D investment in security solutions to help customers combat the growing threat from piracy with piracy prevention, rapid detection and response solutions.

In December 2018, Synamedia announced Credentials Sharing Insight to help streaming service providers combat the rapid rise in account sharing between friends and families and turn it into a new revenue-generating opportunity. The solution can also be used to detect and shut down large-scale, for-profit credentials sharing accounts run by fraudsters.
